Rep. Grijalva Slams Trump Plan to Roll Back Fuel and Emissions Standards
TUCSON, AZ— Today, the Trump Administration announced a plan to roll back the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation’s fuel and emissions standards first implemented under the Obama Administration. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump and his administration of science-deniers will stop at nothing to roll back the real progress we’ve made in combatting pollution and climate change. Make no mistake, this is a blatant attempt to attack environmental regulations and negatively impacts consumers and public health.
“The scientific evidence is clear: the greenhouse gas emissions standards worked and were not the ‘job-killing’ regulations opponents suggested. Greenhouse gas emissions standards raised the bar for U.S. automobiles and provided consumers with access to fuel-efficient vehicles that not only reduced pollution, but saved consumers money at the gas pump.
“Rather than relentlessly attacking our environment, the Trump Administration must keep these standards in place and do what’s best for the American people—instead of what’s best for corporate interests.”
