WASHINGTON – Today, in a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) overturned the federal appeals court ruling in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, determining that the plaintiffs lacked standing in the case.
Representative Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) released the following statement:
“Today’s ruling is a sigh of relief for millions of Americans. This ruling rightfully rejects extremists’ efforts to restrict American’s access to abortion medication. Mifepristone is and remains a safe and effective medication.”
“More must be done to assure Arizonans that their rights will not be undermined by ideological groups that ‘judge shop’ and push meritless claims. These gross tactics abuse our judicial system, ignore science, jeopardize the entire FDA regulatory process, and undermine American’s rights to control their own bodies. It must stop.”
“Moving forward, we need leaders in Congress who will act to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to make clear national safeguards and codify the right to access reproductive care. Arizonans must make certain they cement the right to abortion access in our state constitution. And, I will not stop fighting for reproductive freedom for all people.”
