Rep. Grijalva Statement on the First Day of the 118th Congress

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) issued a statement on the first day of the 118th Congress:

“I am grateful to have been entrusted with the constitutional responsibility to represent the constituents of the newly formed 7th District of Arizona in the 118th Congress. When Democrats took control of the House four years ago, we advanced some of the most progressive and bold bills in Congressional history – passing legislation like the American Rescue Plan to address the COVID-19 pandemic and its’ economic impacts; the bipartisan infrastructure law to create millions of jobs and upgrade our aging infrastructure; the Inflation Reduction Act to lower health care costs and place a down payment on the climate crisis; the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to address gun violence, and more.”

“Republicans have shown their hand and unveiled the clown car caucus with which they expect to govern. Their inability to select a Speaker and their extremist and unpopular legislative priorities have proven that they’re unserious and incapable of competent governance. They have committed to shoving down the American people’s throats a radical agenda to strip away women’s rights, enable oil companies to pollute unhindered, give their billionaire donors tax breaks, and undermine free and fair elections that are the fabric of our democracy. I expect Republican’s control and tenure in the House to be short, and I will do everything in my power to ensure we mitigate their worst legislative impulses, while continuing to forward the policies that Americans stand behind.”

“Serving Arizona’s 7th Congressional District is my distinct honor and privilege. I’m ready to cut through the extremist Republican noise and get to work to better the lives of everyday families in Arizona and beyond.”
