WASHINGTON—This week, the House of Representatives passed the FUTURE Act. The bill permanently authorizes permanent funding for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“Despite the large role HSIs, TCCUs, HBCUs, and MSIs play in educating students of color and providing them with the support they need to obtain a college degree; they still remain underfunded. This bill recognizes their important work and gives them permanent funding so they can continue strengthening STEM programs, technology, and robust academic counseling alongside other programs that invest in the success of their students. I’ve seen the important role these institutions play in opening the doors to opportunity for the students of Southern Arizona, and I’m proud that Congress has passed this important legislation.”
