TUCSON, AZ – Today, Congressman Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) joined volunteers with the Casa Maria Catholic Worker Community to help feed homeless and hungry members of the Tucson community. His volunteer work culminates a week of service to honor and remember the life of Cesar Chavez, who dedicated his life to protecting civil rights and improving the lives of farm workers.
“Cesar Chavez dedicated his life to lifting up the lives of others, and left us with a call to action that cannot be denied: ?Our lives are all that really belong to us, so it is how we use our lives that determines what kind of men we are.’
“Today is the first day that the City of Tucson celebrates the Cesar E. Chavez holiday, and it is only fitting to remember a man who gave so much to others by following his lead. I’m proud to honor his life’s work and achievements, and I am grateful for Casa Maria and other organizations like it for keeping Cesar Chavez’s legacy of helping others alive, each and every day.”
Casa Maria is a part of the lay Catholic Worker movement, which provides services to the poor in Tucson, Arizona.
