WASHINGTON— Today, the House of Representatives will vote on H.Res.21, a resolution that would call upon Vice President Mike Pence to mobilize members of the cabinet and activate the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office. Before voting in favor of the legislation, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“President Trump is guilty of putting his interests of staying in power above honoring the results of our free and fair elections. In a stunning display of complete disregard for our values and institutions, he encouraged an angry mob to violently attack the Capitol and threaten Members of Congress to overturn the election. In the process, numerous people tragically lost their lives while the President put Members of Congress, their staff, Capitol police, and other Capitol complex staff in immediate, life-threatening danger. He has shown no remorse for his actions and continues to incite violence and voice support for those who attempted to not just undermine, but violently overthrow, our government.
“His actions demonstrated that he is unable to uphold the most basic parts of his oath of office. Invoking the 25th Amendment is an unprecedented action that is required for an unprecedented situation. If Vice President Pence is unable to complete this task for the American people, Congress will be forced to impeach this President once again.”
