Rep. Grijalva Welcomes Arizona Supreme Court Decision to Keep Students, Teachers and Essential Workers Safe

WASHINGTON – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) issued a statement following the Arizona Supreme Court ruling that found the Arizona Legislature unconstitutionally included a ban on school mask mandates:

“The Arizona Supreme Court ruling is great news for Arizona kids, teachers, school personnel and essential workers. I am proud of the school districts that have stood up to the misguided Governor Ducey and the GOP-controlled legislature that flaunted scientifically backed public health mitigation measures and instead implemented safety protocols to keep kids and families safe. I urge parents and students to continue to get vaccinated when possible, wear masks to protect our community, and practice public health safety measures to help defeat this virus.”

In September, Rep. Grijalva lauded the original Maricopa County Superior Court decision to strike down the unconstitutional mask ban. He has continually urged the state of Arizona and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to implement sound and layered COVID-19 mitigation strategies to prevent spread at the community level and to protect students and educational staff.
