TUCSON – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued a statement following the Maricopa County Superior Court decision:
“I am grateful for those Arizona school districts that chose to protect our children, students, school personnel and families and oppose the negligent, Governor Ducey-led prohibition of public health measures. Rejection of the unconstitutional ban on masks by the courts is welcome news. The GOP state legislature and governor’s attacks on scientifically backed health mitigation strategies to protect children need to stop. They put our children at risk and demonstrate a level of irresponsibility that is hard to match. It’s time for the Governor to drop the act and keep our schools open safely. Parents should not have to choose between the safety or education of their child. We need to listen to the public health professionals, get vaccinated against COVID-19, and wear our masks to protect our community and loved ones from this deadly virus.”
Rep. Grijalva has continually urged the state of Arizona and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to implement sound and layered COVID-19 mitigation strategies to prevent spread at the community level and to protect students and educational staff.
