Rep. Grijalva Wins First-Ever Democracy Award for Outstanding Constituent Services
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Congressional Management Foundation awarded Rep. Raul M. Grijalva with its inaugural Democracy Award for Outstanding Constituent Services. CMF named Rep. Grijalva a finalist along with five other offices in the category of constituent services in February, but the latest announcement was the final stage of the competition.
“Although much attention is paid to what happens in Washington, constituent services is truly the heartbeat of everything that we do in my office,” said Rep. Grijalva. “I’m proud of my amazing staff who come to work each day and tirelessly work for the betterment of our community. With their help, thousands of our residents receive the assistance they need to navigate the complexities of federal agencies and get the benefits they deserve. The people of my district know that they have a representative in Washington who is fighting for them.”
More than 15,372 families and individuals have received assistance from constituent services since 2003. In FY2017, Rep. Grijalva’s office assisted in 17 foreclosure postponements and modifications, saving constituents over $2 million.
“As a Democracy Award winner, Rep. Grijalva’s office is clearly one of the best in Congress,” said Bradford Fitch, President and CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation. “This designation demonstrates that Rep. Grijalva has made a significant commitment to being the best public servant for his constituents in Arizona. Rep. Grijalva and his staff are to be congratulated for not only being a model for his colleagues in Congress, but for helping to restore trust and faith that our democratic institutions can work.”
