WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative-elect Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) issued a statement following the Biden administration’s announcement of new border measures to address border security and the developing humanitarian situation:
“For too long, Republicans have refused to meet at the negotiating table on legislation that will modernize our immigration system and give non-governmental organizations and government agencies the tools and resources they need to process migrants and operate effectively in this humanitarian crisis.”
“I’ll continue to work with the Biden administration to ensure that we restore our asylum system to be just, safe and orderly after its dismantlement by the Trump administration. I will support investments that will modernize our nation’s land ports of entry and resist continued efforts to militarize southern border communities.”
“It’s time the pundits and Republicans stopped the xenophobic rhetoric and politics, and instead, understood the unique needs of the communities and people of the borderlands. As their representative in Arizona, I’ll ensure their voices are front and center.”
