Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva to Host Economic Stimulus Roundtable

Tucson , AZ— Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva will host a roundtable discussion concerning the new Economic Stimulus package with a broad coalition of local community workforce, poverty, youth and senior advocates on January 30 th at his Tucson District office, 810 E. 22 nd Street at 12:00pm.

The roundtable will analyze the effectiveness discuss various issues surrounding the Economic Stimulus package including the lack of workforce development, job training programs, unemployment compensation and food stamp benefits.

“While the package was a start, it is not inclusive for working families,” said Grijalva. “It does not do enough to address the pressing needs of our most vulnerable.  When Congress sends an economic stimulus package to the President, it should expand programs that specifically help those that will be hit hardest by the recession – namely the poor and unemployed.  We must help American families struggling to make ends meet in the slowing economy.   Congress needs to re-assess this failed economic policy to undo further detriment to our economy”.

Included in the discussion will be local advocates from Pima County, AZ Alliance for Retired Americans, Pima County Interfaith Council, Pima Council on Aging, the United Way, Primavera Foundation, Economic Center for Economic Integrity, Children’s Action Alliance, Community Food Bank, Tucson Urban League, Chicanos Por La Causa, various Union representatives and other participants.
