Washington, D.C.– Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today congratulated Dr. Cecilia Rosales of Tucson on receiving the 2010 Wavemaker Award from the Campaign for Public Health Foundation. Grijalva nominated Rosales for the award, which specifically recognizes the “unsung” work of disease control and prevention experts.

Rosales, an associate professor in the community, environment and policy division of the University of Arizona College of Public Health, will accept her award at a Nov. 18 ceremony at the Washington, D.C. Columbus Club. Grijalva will give brief remarks at the event, which will also honor Ms. Janet Zola of California, this year’s other award recipient.

“Dr. Rosales has been doing great public work for many years without demanding recognition. I was happy to nominate her, and I couldn’t be happier at the news of her selection,” Grijalva said. Her work over the years has focused on a variety of issues in and around border communities, including tuberculosis prevention, addressing farmworker health quality, and combating chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
