WASHINGTON – Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass six fiscal year (FY) 2024 appropriations bills as a government funding package. The package includes 13 community funding projects championed by Representative Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) totaling $14,208,389.  

Democrats rejected extreme Republican cuts and policies. This government package invests in America’s future and delivers for the American people by:

• Helping with the cost of living, creating and sustaining tens of thousands of good paying jobs, fighting inflation, and providing full funding for key lifelines such as food assistance and more affordable housing and homeownership.

• Protecting women’s rights by blocking attempts to limit women’s access to reproductive health care, including abortion, and by increasing funding for gender-based violence prevention and prosecution programs.

• Confronting the climate crisis and fighting climate change by deploying clean energy technologies across the country, and supporting Tribal communities by investing in a strong and resilient Indian Country, including through education and health care programs.

• Honoring our commitments to our veterans by ensuring they receive the care and benefits that they have earned and investing in veterans’ health care, including targeted investments that advance women’s health, mental health, and homelessness assistance.

• Funds community projects: Responds directly to pressing needs in Southern Arizona and districts like mine by supporting underserved areas and fostering the economic development that makes communities healthier, safer, and stronger through community projects .

This package includes the following funding bills: Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies; and Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.

The remaining six appropriations bills for fiscal year 2024 are expected to be released in the coming days and be voted on ahead of their expiration on March 22.

The 13 projects included in the government funding package, include:

• $102,358 for Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. Pediatric Center of Excellence

“This is great news for the community of Douglas. These funds will invest not only in the continued health care of children in Douglas, but will also fortify a beautiful historic structure that dates back to the town’s founding.  It’s a win-win!  We are grateful for Representative Grijalva’s advocacy and leadership in helping Chiricahua secure these funds.” – Dr. Jonathan Melk, CEO of Chiricahua Community Health Centers.

• $455,000 for City of Douglas Police Department Headquarters

“We are profoundly thankful to Congressman Raul Grijalva for securing funding to preserve the El Paso and Southwestern Railroad Passenger Depot, a cornerstone of Douglas’ heritage, now serving as our Police Department Headquarters. This restoration not only honors our past but ensures our Police Department has a solid foundation for the future. • $959,752 for City of Tolleson for Water Storage Tank Project

The $959,752 allocated for our Water Storage Tank Project signifies a crucial step towards securing our community’s water supply and ensuring a sustainable future for all residents. • $2,900,000 for Douglas Downtown Revitalization

• $850,000 for Early Childhood Learning Center, Pascua Yaqui Tribe

Our Center will provide a nurturing environment for young Yaqui intellectuals to honor, impart, and preserve our language, culture, and history. • $500,000 for El Pueblo Multi-Generational Outdoor Activity Complex

The multi-generational programs housed there are creating educational opportunities, serving seniors and children, and increasing healthcare access. • $975,000 for Habitat for Humanity Tucson Housing Pre-Development

• $500,000 for Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter

• $850,000 for South 10th Avenue Affordable Housing Pre-Development

The South 10th Avenue project is a perfect example of how the City of Tucson is working to create housing options where they are needed while investing in a historic neighborhood,” said Mayor Regina Romero, City of Tucson.

• $1,616,279 for Southeastern Arizona: Bisbee Science Exploration and Ecotourism Project

“I am thrilled to share our vision for transforming eight unmaintained acres at a decommissioned middle school into a Regenerative Learning Ecosystem. Fondly known as the Backyard Project, our work is committed to addressing critical challenges in education, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. This represents more than a physical transformation; it represents a collaborative endeavor that leverages the unique strengths of our many partners and community. With funding support, we aim to propel this initiative forward, fostering a resilient and adaptive community through innovative STEAM education and community-driven science initiatives. • $3,000,000 for Baffert Mountain Point Development Senior Living

Congressman Raúl Grijalva’s unwavering support has unlocked a new chapter of hope for seniors of Nogales, Arizona. With profound gratitude, we extend our deepest thanks for working with Chicanos Por La Causa to procure $3,000,000 towards addressing the housing shortage that many of our senior citizens are facing.
