Rep. Grijalva Slams Trump Administration’s Immigration Policies After Damning OIG Report

TUCSON—Recently, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General released a report detailing longstanding, intense, psychological trauma experienced by asylum-seeking children separated from their parents under the Trump Administration’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“The Trump Administration inflicted irreparable psychological trauma on children and their families when they ripped them apart, and demonstrated a complete disregard for the long-term consequences. Despite the release of this damning report, they continue denying due process to asylum seekers, still separate children from their families, and will now indefinitely continue housing asylum-seekers in detention.

“This is the real crisis at the Southern border, and every administration official who engaged in this state-sponsored child abuse should have to answer for their conduct as Congress continues investigating the Trump Administration’s abuses at the border. In the meantime, the Trump Administration must cease its attacks on asylum seekers and immediately reunite the families they needlessly destroyed.”
